Our Life Needs as Seen Through Hands

Do you have a need for people to appreciate and value you?  Or do you have a need for structure and consistency in your emotional and material world that makes your life run smoothly?  Or perhaps one of your strong needs is for being seen and recognized by others for your creativity or accomplishments.  Maybe the need to be able to communicate, to be heard and understood by others is what really makes your life seem fulfilling.

As we look at our fingers we can see they might be very long or very short.  They can be very straight or slightly bent or crooked.  As we spread our fingers apart, we might see one finger sticking out from the palm, or others close together.  All these stances of the fingers can be understood by a trained Hand Analyst to show some of the current needs you might have in your life.

Whatever the need revealed in your hands, when it is brought to the light of your awareness through a hand reading, then you can work with it to bring more satisfaction into your life.  That is the beauty of Hand Analysis!

Through the philosophy put forth by Richard Unger in LIFEPRINTS, we can see these challenges and assets — these needs — as stepping stones to experiencing our highest good, our Right Life.

What is Soul Psychology?

In hand analysis (as taught by the International Institute of Hand Analysis) there are two kinds of psychology: Personality Psychology and Soul Psychology.

Personality Psychology is shown through the lines and shapes in our hands, which reveals the nature we have developed over our life.  It is a story of where we are right now.   Lines and shapes can change over time, just as our personality can grow and change.  There are more neurological connections between the brain and the hand than any other part of the body, and the lines reflect the well worn neural pathways that our brains use regularly.

Our Soul Psychology, mapped in our fingerprints, is unique and permanent.  Our prints reveal our hunger for meaning that comes from our deepest nature.  It is as if we made a contract with our Higher Self or Higher Power 16 weeks after conception (when finger prints are formed), to take on our life fulfillment, challenges and the lens through which we see and react to the world.

Our life fulfillment or Life Purpose, is the state of consciousness we want to live in.  It is about the deep core of who we are and transcends our thinking/feeling nature.

Our Life Lesson our least evolved skill on the spiritual and practical level.  It is the part of ourselves that we try to avoid because it is the most uncomfortable to experience.

Our Life School (Love, Service, Wisdom or Peace) is the way we see, feel, act and react to the world most comfortably.  It is our natural response to life, the lens through which we see the world.

The schools are:

  • Love:  Its purpose is for us to gain trust by being willing to recognize and express our authentic emotions in order to find closeness and love through self-acceptance
  • Service:  Its purpose is for us to gain freedom through the desire to help, not control, in order to discover our Self through selfless, joyous service
  • Wisdom:  Its purpose is for us to gain joy in knowledge by participating in life in order to be understood and bring understanding
  • Peace:  Its purpose is for us to gain a deep sense of peace within ourselves in order to experience harmony in the body, in the moment and with the environment

Our Soul sets our destiny/agenda and our Personality is the vehicle for fulfilling our destiny.  The Soul has determined our Purpose and Lesson and School and we need the Personality to realize our Purpose, learn our Lesson and become masters of our School.

What Your Fingers Reveal

In the Hand Analysis method developed by Richard Unger and written about in his book “LifePrints”, he has laid out an accurate and comprehensive system for understanding ourselves.  This system, based on over 30 years of research and more than 52,000 hands read by Unger reveals how our unique and unchangeable finger prints, formed 16 weeks after conception, give each one of us our own personal map to our Life’s Purpose, Life Lesson and Life School, in other words to our “Soul Psychology“.

Our finger prints reveal our Soul’s Plan and Purpose and understanding and working with these basic aspects of ourselves can bring us tremendous satisfaction and fulfillment.   Our greatest good in this life can come out of understanding and living from our Life Purpose and our Life School, while seeking to embrace our weakest life skills or our Life Lesson.

Our Life Purpose is where we will have the greatest fulfillment in life.   It is like the swimming stroke we do with great ease, comfort and skill.  Our Purpose is the “I am” we are meant to be.  On a soul level it is our most evolved ability just waiting to be activated.  It is the place where we have a deeply personal sense that life has meaning.

Our Life Lessons are the obstacles or challenges that keep us from our greatest fulfillment.  Our Lesson is the weakest part of our swimming stroke (that left leg that it is hard to kick with), the part of us that needs practice and patience and our greater attention.  It is our least evolved skill on a spiritual and practical level.  It is that part of ourselves we wish we didn’t have and we try to avoid because there’s so much learning and work to do to become aware enough to use it well.

Our Life School is our fundamental point of view through which we see, feel and react to the world   It can be the School of Love, Wisdom, Service or Peace.  The Life School is like the water we swim in.  It’s the way we most usually respond to all our life experiences.

To use the swimming analogy: if we want to BE the person who can DO the breast stroke (Life Purpose), then we must be willing to work on the scissors kick — which is hard for us to do (Life Lesson), and in order to swim we need to get into and learn about the water (Life School).

And our Right Life is the full expression of who we are when we are living our Life Purpose conscious of and embracing our Life Lesson and our Life School.  When we are finding our greatest fulfillment in our daily lives, moving in step with our natural tendencies as we encounter our challenges and successes, then we are experiencing our Right Life.

Be Careful About What You Want

The theme of my life since I was a child has been about manifestation.  Successfully manifesting in a large, rather poor family was a daily challenge and honed my skills for the rest of my life.  As a child I was the one that got the big special Christmas present because I only asked for that one thing, like a new set of luggage, or a new radio or a trip to North Carolina.  Knowing and asking for what you want is key to manifestation, and being careful to know what is important to want is also essential.

Unfortunately, when I was 17 I knew that I wanted to have a relationship with a man (he was 4 years older than me), and so I “wished on a star” every day and visualized and set my intention to be with him.  I got my “wish” and eventually had an unsuccessful marriage with him (except for the beautiful child we brought into the world).  My point is that knowing what we want to manifest is not enough, we need to honor other people and not try to influence them in our manifestation process.

The Spirit, by Mary Oliver

This poem is so appropriate to Soul Tapestry

the spirit
likes to dress up like this:
ten fingers,
ten toes,

shoulders, and all the rest
at night
in the black branches,
in the morning

in the blue branches
of the world.
It could float, of course,
but would rather

plumb rough matter.
airy and shapeless thing,
it needs
the metaphor of the body,

lime and appetite,
the oceanic fluids;
it needs the body’s world,
instinct

and imagination
and the dark hug of time,
sweetness
and tangibility,

to be understood,
to be more than pure light
that burns
where no one is –

so it enters us –
in the morning
shines from brute comfort
like a stitch of lightening;

and at night
lights up the deep and wondrous
drownings of the body
like a star.

What is Your Soul’s Tapestry?

As 2009 ends we have a tradition in my family to set our “New Year’s Resolutions” — write them down and most likely forget about them.  Then discover the list the next year and do it again.

This year is different for the 3 of us living in my house.  We are all (in different ways) at crossroads in our creativity.  Steve, my deep thinking husband, is honing a software project that he has been working on for a long time to the point that it can actually be used and most useful to other people now.  Stephanie, my wise and opinionated daughter, is going to CU in Boulder and this new year begins her entrance into the Art program there, as well as a blossoming of her not insignificant writing skills.

And I am stepping out (or being pushed by Spirit more likely) into the world to share my knowledge and my lifetime of experience with others in new ways.  I have been a Master Rapid Eye Practitioner since 1996 and a spiritual seeker, coach and teacher since the early 70’s.

I recently reconnected with a dear friend from my early days of study in the Church of Religious Science.  As we rekindled our friendship she happened to mention that she found a very useful and accurate system for understanding Soul Psychology, it is hand analysis.  My first response was oh noes palmistry!!  However Lifeprints, as it is called, is not about predicting the future but is based on fingerprints (and other indicators in the hand) and the permanent map they provide to our life purpose, life lessons and life path or “school” as this system describes it.

I have always been into “what works” (as my finger prints plainly reveal) and the Lifeprints system showed me the pattern of my life from early childhood and how my personal life purpose is not only about doing something, but is about who I am and how I have created my life.

Two of the processes I have learned are healing threads in the Tapestry of my life and the lives of the people I have touched.  With the threads of, Hand Analysis and Rapid Eye Techniques, I bring these two systems together to assist people in finding their unique Life Purpose and heal any blocks or challenges to their Purpose so they may begin living with excitement a life of new possibilities.
